OSU East Hospital Tower 3, 9 & 10
Have I mentioned OSU East Hospital’s tower was built in the 1960’s and it’s round? Some of the patient floor have never been renovated. In the past six years I have refreshed and renovated the third, ninth and tenth floors, including installation of a sprinkler system, which the building is required to have throughout by 2023. The biggest space planning challenge on the floors was the reconfiguration of the central nurses’ station to maximize the space, provide at least three larger patient rooms with full bathrooms, and provide an ADA public restroom. I did lots of field verification, but with limited right angles the best way to ensure the design was implemented properly was to spend a lot of time on site during construction and requesting the same contractor do all three floors. The resulting patient floors are now the favorites of the staff and the patients.
